LaCrosse Men's AeroHead Realtree Xtra Hunting Boot,Realtree Xtra Green,11 M US Review

I'm new to Rubber hunting boots but my first impression is that this is a good kind of different. I grew up wearing Bean Boots and steel toed rubber boots around the farm, nowadays I wear a pair of Danner Desert boots daily. So I know the difference between a good boot and a bad one. Here are my thoughts.

-Construction: Fit and finish is first class. The seams and edges where the polyurethane meets the neoprene are well defined and solid. Where the sole meets the boot is equally as solid. No small gaps that will become big gaps over time. I'll be interested to see how it holds up over time as you walk around and do the things these boots are intended for.

-Comfort: Putting on the boot it feels like your slipping your foot into pillow. It is soft and cushion..'ey. The shank/shin part grabs abit at your pant leg so you have to guide and tuck that in. Tighten down the strap on the back and it seems like the boot has a solid hold on your ankle. I decided to wear them around the house for abit just to get a feel, my wife was rolling her eyes the entire time and I looked like a goon, but whatever. I was wearing Thor-lo heavy wieght hiker socks and wasn't very active. I notice that my feet became VERY warm almost too warm, but it was 65 deg outside at night so I did it to myself. I do have a concern about the cushiness of the sole if you are doing any sort of longer movement through the woods with any sort of load/pack. A soft sole will cause foot injuries in those conditions so get a proper hunting/hiking mountain boot if you are planning to do this. But if the boot is going to be used to static hunt or for walking/stalking just carrying a rifle or bow it will probably feel like your walking in warm, cushy, dry sneakers.

-Fit: True to size. I have a 11 1/2 foot. I've tried the LaCrosse AlphaBurly's in a size 11 and I felt like I was practicing Chinese foot binding. The Aerohead only comes in whole sizes so pick your poison if you are a half-size like me. You are either going to have your big toe touching the neoprene or you are going to be rattling around in these boots. Frankly I'd prefer it tad tight and deal with a small toe blister because it was small than a large underskin heel blister because all the room. In a size 11 my foot fills the boot snugly but with room to flex and move. My toe touches at the tip of the boot but since this is neoprene and not a hard surface it won't make me a size 11 over time. With the thicker socks it was definately snug, so I'll be wearing my light or medium weight hiker socks.

-Gripes and Concerns: This boot will not let your foot go. Great advantage in mud, however at the end of the day when you want to get out of said boots it could be a recipe to explore your creativity
