Idro-Perwanger Roughout leather upper is durable and water repellant. They are extremely light weight and built well. I did return these before using because they just didn't have the ankle support that I was looking for. I ended up going with the Salomon Quest 4D's because of the higher and stiffer ankle support. However, these were FAR more comfortable.I was really sad to have to send them back. This would be a great boot for moderate to average hikes. I would not recommend long hikes with heavy loads as they just don't have the support IMO for long heavy trips. I'd say 25lb pack tops. If you've got ankles built of steel and aren't prone to sprains then these would be an excellent choice for longer hikes. The sole is moderately flexible and I wouldn't suggest any serious mountaineering in them but then again that's not what they were built for.
They appear to be built very well and should last many seasons. The tread pattern is very aggressive and will work well in any environment. Interestingly the fit is attributed to a "moccasin" or neoprene glove type system. I really enjoyed it and it was extremely comfortable! I will definitely own a pair of La Sportiva's in the future!
Size was true to fit for me. A bounus is that you can get them in european sizing which means a 12.5 for me... yea!!!
I would not recommend for people with "really" wide feet. However, a co-worker has wider than average feet and he raves about his boots which are a different La Sportiva model.
