Belleville 696 Sage Green Lightweight Side Zip Composite Toe Garrison Boot, 9.5 Review
The boot is very lightweight. Sub 2lb shipping weight. The boot weighs about the same as a sturdy basketball sneaker. The stitching is fantastic. The leather is thick suede and very breathable. The boots are very satisfactory for a lightweight durable walking/hiking boot.things that I initially had an issue with. No complaints considering it's duty is to be light and breathable.
- no liner inside the boot ankle, direct contact with webbing/stiching/zipper backing. This was immediately uncomfortable when wearing without the protection of boot socks or blousing.
- Composite toe and inner liners were initially rubbing against my small toes. The fit is very good I ordered a half size smaller than my running shoe fitment. This was in line with the strong advisement of Belleville. After trimming my nails and wearing the boots for 2 days this became a non-issue. Boot socks really make the difference. I was surprised to find that the composite toe and soft liner insert actually adjusted very nicely to the small toe region given a little bit more time and a nice thick boot sock. Don't worry if there is some initial slight discomfort, it should subside within a few days of walking.
Overall a good boot that I believe will last for at least a year of daily medium use.
February 2, 2013 - I've had the boot on today for 17 hours, I'm on my ass and was going to take off the boot but just left it on because I'm too lazy. The boot feels good and I can make them purge hot foot air just by flexing my feet. These boots feel like a lightweight hiker. But my sense is that they are more durable than your standard wal-mart hiker. I've been wearing some double density boot socks and the experience has been really good. My confidence level in these boots is growing at this point. I'm beginning to feel like the purchase was well worth it (purchase online or by phone directly from the manufacturer, they are very helpful).
The suede stays clean if you brush it. The suede does comply with the fitment of the foot very well. I'm loving the large nylon/canvas surface area. It's lightweight around the ankles and lower leg and there is a significant cooling in those regions. I live in the tropics and I'm really enjoying this boot.
The sole and leather upper are in good condition, no issues at all with the stitching or zipper. The eyelets are sharp for the cheap laces. I skipped the two middle eyelets to provide a quick lace system and I find the wider angle on the eyelets is more relieving to the laces. Best to plan on getting authentic boot laces. Did I mention the zipper and surrounding area are functioning like a charm. The boot is not ready out of the box due to lack of mil spec boot laces. Small fix for the manufacturer. the stock boot laces won't last very long under heavy lacing conditions.
I've still got the boots on and feel fully at home in these feet protectors.
If you wear the boot with boot socks it feels like a charm. An all day general hiker or garrison boot for sure. Boot is made in China, good product, too bad it's not a homeland product. I suggest to Belleville to bring the boot back to the USA. WTF is up with the made in china bs.
