If the vamp/collar on the shoe was closer to the toe box these would be the ultimate barefoot ballet shoe option. Alas, they still have too much of a casual, water-shoe vibe because of their construction. Hopefully future generations of the Serene Glove will come closer to being a passable ballet flat, without losing barefoot shoe benefits as it evolves.

The black version of the shoe makes the embroidery very unobtrusive. This is a very versatile shoe, just very casual in style and an unflattering design for some foot proportions due to the neoprene collar that is suspended between very nice leather toe and heel boxes.

The shoe runs true-to-size for the brand. I typically wear a EU 38 but Merrel sizing allows 38.5 (US 8 for them), so I was able to get a wide, comfortable barefoot toe box, neutral heel and a little wiggle room for foot swelling from being active in extreme heat.

The material of the shoe is not totally breathable, especially not compared to Merrell Glove models that have mesh construction. This model has good arch support for a barefoot soled shoe.
