I finally decided to go for clipless pedals and real bike shoes for my daily commute to and from work. I needed shoes that I could comfortably walk in from my building bike racks to the gym (about a block away). These shoes are perfect for my needs. Cleat installation was easy and the shoes are designed such that the cleat holes are covered by the inner liners, so that water won't get through. Although the shoes are stiff, the recessed cleat design allows me to walk normally without worrying about messing up the cleat. The velcro straps and ratcheting strap are easy to adjust and the shoe is pretty comfortable. I wear a 8.5 in street shoes and a 40.5 in these fits me perfectly - quite snug, but not too tight. I've only been using them for about a week, but so far, so good. I would recommend them to commuters.
