Suffering as a child at the Stride Rite store.."no, we don't have the black velvet mary jane shoes with the flowers on it in her size, but here's some brown lace ups that will fit". When you grow up with a wide foot and a high instep you normally are resigned to be happy to just find ANYTHING that fits. You compensate with cute socks. I was really tired of compensating. I wanted a running shoe that wasn't all white, with a big N on the side of it. I ordered these with the thought that I would probably have to return them. I generally wear a size 8 but I ordered a 8.5 2E. When I opened the box I was saddened to think of them not fitting because they looked like what I have wanted for so long. I tried them on, and was ecstatic. My toes could move. Nothing was squished, the shoes were light, and they look so cool. The 8.5 fit perfectly with socks. There is very good cushioning as I walk. I haven't run in them yet so I can't review them on that merit. I'm giving them 5 stars for the fit and finish.
