My level of hiking is walking through the virgin prairie of south central Nebraska, walking through rural cemeteries and doing yard work. Maybe the Vasque Vista boot is overkill but as a elderly person, I'm feeling surefooted and fearless. I usually wear a size 7.5 shoe so I bought these in size 8 to wear with fat socks. With one pair of fat socks I could still wiggle my toes. At first I was unsure if size 8 was actually too big while testing them on indoor carpet.
But I held onto the 8's and now I feel completely happy that I did. A bonus to wearing these boots is that they forced me to improve my posture by standing tall. Suddenly my breathing improved. This will be my last pair of hiking boots
