Product Description
A rugged and stylish option, this men's closed-toe Unstructured sandal is a top choice for more active days. Made of brown leather, suede, and mesh, it's designed for durability while its innovative internal air channels and vents keep feet fresh and dry all day long. The hook-and-loop closure means easy on/off and the perfect fit. The suede lining and lightweight outsole offer heel-to-toe comfort and shock absorption.Clarks Men's Vincent Fisherman Sandal,Brown,7 M US Review
We all wish for that Holy Grail of decent fitting, comfortable walking sandal, but without the painful Mephisto pricing. These Clarks men's Vincent Fisherman Sandals are a great buy if you have worn Unaffordables in the past. Unlike some other $80-ish Clark Sandals also made in China, this set has better overall design and construction. The side pieces have a dual material layering so that no rough leather or leather-like material scuffs the foot surfaces. The INSOLE covering material is a fake suede-like material that, though not as good as actual leather, wears MUCH BETTER than the thin fabric material that covers "those other" Clarks insoles. The fore-foot area is wider than seen on other versions of Clarks sandals, for better stability, and this spreads the walking pressure along a wider surface, for great comfort, even if wearing/walking for an entire day in dusty or humid regions.Sizing on Clarks sandals tends to be slightly (VERY slightly) on the larger size, which is better than being on the small size, IMHO. You can cinch up the rear facing Velcro straps to move your foot deeper forward into the covered toe "box" area, if you are a tweener size-wise; the side benefit is that now a bit more heel area is left behind your foot so that now your foot plant feels less pressure on the ankle bones because shock is well spread into the rear of the shoe. Did I mention the great forefoot stability?
The only design consideration on this shoe that I did not like, is the unseen side "tabs' that cushion the sides of your feet from the rear-facing, adjustable straps. The tabs are functional and cushiony, for sure, so it's better they are there than not. But when I go to insert my foot into the sandal, the tab has a tendency to fold over and get stuck facing forward instead of rearward; so I need to reach in sometimes and pull back on it with a finger when that happens. NOT a deal-breaker, by any means, but no Ecco or Mephisto or Columbia sandal I have ever purchased, possessed this "unique feature".
Bottom line is that I shall purchase a couple more pairs of these sandals and store 'em for future use. I was sorely disappointed by my last set of 2011 Mephistos - two different models $180 and $280 - which were just a disappointing shadow of their former, higher quality, 1997-2002 designs. I can buy THREE sets of these Clarks for the cost of ONE of the Euro Mephistos, and toss 'em to Goodwill when they wear down a bit. BTW, I've worn these new CLARK VINCENT sandals now for about two months and have yet to see any visible wear on the bottoms; my other unnamed $80-ish Clarks started to wear out right away, and the cloth insoles started to tear away after just a couple months of hot weather usage.
