First of all, many thanks to everyone who takes the time to write informative reviews! I never write reviews, but was so appreciative of all the helpful advice when searching for shoes for my Plantar Fasciitis, that I felt I must reciprocate...
I was recently diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis. Wore custom orthotics with NB athletic shoes for several months, which were essential after the initial trauma. However when pain subsided, I tried wearing a dress shoe with simple dress orthotics - BIG MISTAKE! PF pain returned with a vengeance. Unfortunately, reality dictates that most of us wear more appropriate footwear to work. Went to local orthopedic shoe store & found the ONLY modern looking pumps (among the many, many old-fashioned orthopedic brands) to be the Aravon pumps. Shoe store price on these Aravon Maura T-straps was $150. Shopped around & found best price at Amazon for $35! Just received them & they feel great - even without an orthotic! My Podriatrist approved of the Aravon Maura pumps & will have custom orthotics fitted inside. Hoping the orthotics will work, but even without them, the shoes are extremely comfortable.
Specifics:
1) Heel height is just under 2" including a 5/8" platform (which gives a little height without any forward pressure);
2) Strap holds foot securely in place (for those of you whose heels tend to slip out);
3) Insole has decent padding with good arch support (I have med-high arches);
4) Toe box is wide (great for me, as I have bunions as well. --I know, I'm a mess!)
5) Runs LONG; you may need a 1/2 size smaller (tried-on several Aravon models, all were long, but width runs true).
